Kiki
died on November 15th 2005 of a condition known as
anomalous origin of the coronary artery (AOCA).
Unlike HCM and other congenital heart defects this
is a physical birth defect where the left or right
coronary artery is routed between the great vessels
of the heart and attaches to the vessel on the
opposite side. In Kiki’s case it was the left
anterior descending coronary artery which was routed
through the great vessels and attached to the right
side in the same place as the right coronary artery.
She never exhibited any symptoms due to this
condition. For all purposes she was 100% healthy and
was rarely ever sick. This is a rare condition and
people (politicians) would have you believe that
these cases are isolated. They tell us that it
happens to so few people that its not worth paying
much attention to. No one will ever pass legislation
for testing because to be honest more teenagers die
from car accidents each year than of sudden heart
failure, a lot more. It seems pretty low on the
priority list until….your son or daughter whom
you’ve raised all their lives, put everything you
had into giving them a good life dies from sudden
heart failure.
